Abstract

The utilization of home yards as productive spaces represents a strategic effort to support household food security. In Desa Makam, Rembang Subdistrict, Purbalingga Regency, yard potential has not been fully optimized for food crop cultivation, while the need for chili as a daily consumption commodity still depends on market purchases. This program aims to optimize home yards through chili cultivation using flexible and practical planter bag media. The implementation method included observation and preparation, educational socialization, training and planting practice, as well as mentoring and evaluation. A participatory approach was applied by directly involving community members. The results indicate that the program aligns with village conditions and improves community understanding of chili cultivation techniques and the use of planter bags that support root growth through a well-aerated system. Community responses showed active participation and positive acceptance of the introduced innovation, although independent implementation still requires an adaptation process. Overall, this program serves as an initial step toward optimizing home yards to strengthen household food self-sufficiency, which requires continuous assistance for sustainable development.
